Good Great Things team was pleased to meet with Bloody brothers(as they call themselves) on the occasion of international volunteer day on 5th December.

Meet the bloody brothers
Volunteer blood donors donating blood on International Volunteer day.

These bloody brothers whom we met came voluntarily to donate blood. Let’s further read their inspiring stories.

Mr. Chandrakant -: Mr. Chandrakant is a 55-year-old young man as he calls himself. He came to the blood bank to donate blood for the 194th time. He will soon complete a double century of his blood or blood product donations. He says that we need to educate people about blood donations, as there are myths that it can cause health issues to the donor. With his superb personality, he can make any place full of joy and positive energy. He says donating blood is equivalent to patriotism and service to god. He always requests others to save his contact with his blood group, so in need, he can be contacted. He asks others to follow the same practice.

Mr. Bhoopendran -: Mr. Bhoopendran thought to do something again on this volunteer’s day and he took time out of his busy schedule to donate blood. It was his 189th blood or blood product donation. Mrs. Bhoopendran is also a regular blood donor. He wants the young generation to come forward and understand the need for blood donation.

Mr. Venkatesh -: Although Mr. Venkatesh donated blood(platelets) one week before. So he could not donate on the volunteer’s day. He is also a proud blood donor who has donated blood and blood products 115 times till now. He is also preparing a team from the young generation by motivating them to donate.

Mr. Nachiket -: He was the youngest among the bloody brothers, who is also a frequent blood donor who has not maintained his donation numbers. But he has donated granulocytes (WBC) on this day, which is one of the toughest blood donations as it is time-consuming. It requires around 3 to 4 hours of the donor’s time on the donation day.

Since we are writing about blood donors we should not forget the contribution of the team at blood bank who tirelessly do their job to save so many lives every day. During covid time blood banks are facing scarcity of blood but these generous donors and the blood banks team have never stopped in doing their duties.

Here I want a special mention of Doctor Ashish from the blood bank. Who is an expert in Transfusion Medicine and Immunohaematology. Who makes people aware of all the technicalities behind the blood and different blood donation processes. So that donors don’t have any doubt of what they are doing and how it can help the recipient. Expert people like him are trying to make awareness as much as possible and the blood donation process as easy as it can be. So that people don’t hesitate to donate blood.

Here are thank you note from a few of the recipients which we got to interact.

  1. Dear donors, I don’t know you, but I can’t thank you enough for the years you added to my life.
  2. I don’t know if donors understand the impact that it makes, but let me tell you, it’s huge. And I’m so thankful they give their time so we can have more time.
  3. This disease is not something you get better from, and we feel blessed every time we are able to celebrate another milestone, another success, even just another day. And it’s all because of donors like bloody brothers.

The need for blood never takes a vacation, and patients in the hospital are depending on generous donors like our bloody brothers.

So please donate blood if you can and inspire others as much as you can. Share this story

Note -: Always consult with the doctors at the blood bank before you donate blood about your eligibility. Also, inform all the details correctly asked by the expert so that you don’t risk yourself or the recipient.
